FlowPoc Version 1.1 =================== Program Description ------------------- FlowPoc is a flow charting application. It can draw several types of diagrams derived from simple scripts. It provides extensive layout controls - more than 200 object shapes are supplied and the shape database can be extended by the user. FlowPoc can walk, step, or run through diagrams. In addition, it is possible to attach timers to diagram elements, allowing to create simple or complex process timers. In addition, FlowPoc PROF can evaluate flow charts and diagrams. It can analyse the different path through a diagram, can run simulations using user defined or default probability settings, can predict the probable path, and can find critical and optimal path. Results are exported to a spreadsheet. There are 15 predefined spreadsheet templates for business, technical, and medical applications. The FlowPoc script language is based on the allClear (CLEARSOFT) script language. allClear is a shareware flowcharting program for Windows. FlowPoc can understand allClear scripts in outline mode, but extends the command language. However, it should not be too difficult to excange scripts between both systems. CLEARSOFT can be contacted in CompuServe (GO CLEARSOFT) or on the INTERNET: WWW.CLEARSOFT.COM Platforms --------- The program runs on PSION S3a/S3c, and Acorn PocketBook II. It also can run on PSION Siena, but screen space might get a bit tight. FlowPoc can also run on the S3a-emulator where it can use screen sizes up to 640x400. ( Set SERVER_PARAMS -X640 -Y400 -D in HCSERVER.PAR for the big screen) Requirements ------------ The disk space requirements are 100-190k depending on the options selected. When active, the system requires a minimum of about 55k main memory. We recommend to install the system on flash SSD, the FLW folder (data drive) on the internal disk or on RAM SSD. Compatibility ------------- The FlowPoc script editor is supported by F11. Troubleshooting --------------- 1. Q: I have edited a script using WORD and now FlowPoc doesn't open the script. A: Open again with WORD and Save As Text. 2. Q: I need to enter a "|" but cannot find it on my keyboard. A: Some keyboards have replaced the "|" with a national character. Press CNTL-ENTER. FlowPoc will insert a " | " at the cursor position. New in Version 1.10 ------------------- - 'Clear visits' is now a separate menu item. - 'Thumbnail' option for animation (Options): Animation takes place in the thumbnail window only. This speeds up things while still giving an idea about the current position. - Added OFF parameter for *NUMBERS command. - FlowPoc PROF released (see above). New in Version 1.03 ------------------- - New option in Preferences for a grey cursor. - In MOVE mode a line is now drawn from the original position to the current position. Script syntax ------------- More detailed descriptions are given in the FlowPoc user manual. For information about menus and dialogue boxes please refer to the help system. The script structure is indicated by indentation. We suggest to use the TAB key for indentation, but FlowPoc will also understand files indented with blanks. Diagram types: Flow chart: Allows all types of basic commands (except assistants). Typical use: Flow charts, industrial processes, data processing. Example: see ORDER.FLW (or AUFTRAG.FLW) Decision tree: Similar to flow charts but recurring statements (GOTO or LOOP) are not allowed. The tree structure is build by nesting Questions and Decisions. Typical use: Diagnostic charts, Trouble-shooting diagrams Example: Top decision: (Case1) Subdecision: (SubCase1) Statement1. (subCase2) Statement2. (Case2) Question? (Yes) Statement3. (No) Statement4. Tree diagram: Classical tree structure. The only basic commands allowed are the Tree command and Statements. The tree structure is build by nesting statements. Typical use: Any type of hierarchical charts (e.g. family tree) Example: Treetop\ Branch1. Subbranch. Subbranch. Branch2. Org diagram: Similar to the Tree diagram, but it allows Assistant commands, too. Typical use: Company organisation diagram. Example: COMPANY.FLW (or FIRMA.FLW) Basic script commands: Title When followed by an empty line the first line in a script is considered as the title line. Statement. Statements are terminated with a period. Example: Enter account number. Question? Questions (IF) are terminated with a question mark. Questions open a new level with two choices. Questions are only allowed in flow charts and decision trees. Example: Account number valid? Decision: Decisions (CASE) are terminated with a colon. Decisions open a new level with an arbitraty number of choices. Decisions are only allowed in flow charts and decision trees. Example: Payment method: (Choice) A choice identifies a new branch after a question or decision. The choice is enclosed in (paranthesis). Maximum length is 30 characters. Choices are only allowed in flow charts and decision trees. Examples: (Yes) (Credit card) Loop; Loops are terminated with a semicolon. A loop opens a new level containing the statements within the loop. Loops are only allowed in flow charts. Example: While not registered; Show About screen. Stop! Stops mark the end of a branch and are terminated with an exclamation mark. Example: Payment done! -Label Labels are used as targets for GOTO commands and are prefixed with a hyphen. The maximum length is 30 characters. Labels must not contain blanks. Labels are only allowed in flow charts. Example: -Payment processing >Goto A goto passes control to the specified label. Goto commands consist of a ">" followed by the label name. Goto's are only allowed in flow charts. Example: >Payment processing &Assistant The assistant command is used to create an element between the levels of hierarchy for an assistant or secretary. Assistants are only allowed in org charts. No more than 2 assistants per unit. Tree\ The tree command is terminated with a backslash and determines the top of a tree. Tree commands cannot be used in flow charts. Example: Head of Organisation\ Advanced commands: Advanced commands are used layout, timers, and some syntax option. The default values for parameters are underlined. This values apply when the command is given without the parameter. | Line break. Must be surrounded by blanks and forces a new line in box texts. " | " can be entered by pressing CNTL-Enter. ~ Soft hyphen. This character is not on the keyboard but can be entered by pressing the soft hyphen key combination: CNTL-"-" on most machines. Some keyboards may use other combinations, e.g. STRG-"/" for German keyboard. (see also PSION user manual, WORD) #filename To include another script file or style sheet into the current script. If no full path is specified, the path defaults to the current path. # Within box texts, # denotes a phone number which can be dialled by pressing the DIAL key. { } {All text within the curly brackets is considered as comment, even across multiple lines }. [ ] Text selection. Only text within the brackets is displayed in boxes, if brackets are specified. Several bracket pairs are possible per line. The exception from the rule - comments starting with an asterisk are considered as commands. {*PARAGRAPH ON/OFF} --- If set to ON box texts can be specified in multiple lines. If set to OFF each line will be considered as a separate box {*FORMAT Kind Font Style Colour Alignment} Controls the text format of box texts. Kind = none | ALL | IF | CASE | CHOICES | STATEMENT | LOOP | START | STOP | ASSISTANT If "Kind" is not supplied the command will only apply to the next box, otherwise the command applies to all boxes of the specified kind. Font = ROMAN | SWISS ----- Colour = BLACK | GREY | NONE or WHITE ----- Style = NORMAL | BOLD & UNDERLINED & INVERS & ITALIC ------ Style keywords can be combined. Alignment = CENTRE | LEFT | RIGHT ------ {*SHAPE Kind ShapeID Colour) Controls the shape of boxes. Kind and Colour as above ShapeID: a shape number from the shape database (SHAPES.DBF) (0-209) {*POSITION X xoff Y yoff} Can offset the position of the following box by the specified amount. xoff: horizontal offset in 1/2 grid units negative values: to the left positive values: to the right yoff: vertical offset in grid units negative values: upwards positive values: downwards {*ATTACH filename) Attaches a document to a box. FlowPoc selects the application to open the document depending on the file extension. If no path is specified, the document will be searched in the current directory. The command must be given after the box text. {*WAIT time sound visual options [REMIND reminder]} Attaches a timer to the following box. time = total waiting time in seconds sound = none | BEEP | FANFARE | CHIMES | BELLS | WAVE filename ---- If no path is given in the wave filename, the file be searched in all WVE directories. visual = none | FLASH | PROMPT | BACKLIGHT ---- Flash will shortly flash the screen. Prompt will pop up a dialogue box and wait on user response. Backlight will switch the backlight on and off (provided your machine is equipped with a backlight) options = CLOCK & POP CLOCK will show the countdown in a separate window POP shows the box text in a separate window. Both values can be combined. reminder = interval sound interval = 0 for once only or time in seconds between reminders (default is 0) sound as above {*LINES (branch) distance colour edges} controls the appearance of connecting lines (branch) denotes the branch number for the following box. If (ALL) is specified the command applies to all branches of the following box. If ommitted the command changes the appearance of all lines of all following boxes. distance = distance between lines and boxes in percent of grid height default is 12 colour as above edges = ROUND | SHARP | STRAIGHT ----- {*ARROWS (branch) ArrowKind ArrowShape ArrowDirection [ArrowKind ArrowShape ArrowDirection]} controls the appearances of arrows (the arrow colour is the line colour) (branch) denotes the branch number for the following box. If (ALL) is specified the command applies to all branches of the following box. If ommitted the command changes the appearance of all lines of all following boxes. ArrowKind = NONE | ALL | START | END --- ArrowShape = FAT | THIN | DOUBLE | >> | >| | CONE | POINT | BALL | SQUARE | X | + | BAR | || --- ArrowDirection = IN | OUT -- {*CHOICES Font Style Colour Position} controls the appearance of choice texts for IF boxes. By default numbering is off. {*YESNO yes no} Sets the default texts for unspecified IF choices. yes,no = Text strings of max. 30 characters {*FLOW CHART} Declares the diagram as a decision tree. {*DECISION TREE} Declares the diagram as a decision tree. {*TREE} Declares the diagram as a tree. {*ORG CHART} Declares the diagram as a org chart. {*TITLE font style colour} Sets the format of a title line. Font, style, and colour as above, but BOLD is default style. {*GRID lines colour} Controls the appearance of the grid. lines = NONE | HORIZONTAL | VERTICAL | BOTH ---- colour as above, but with default GREY. {*LAYOUT [HORIZONTAL xdist] [VERTICAL ydist] [PROPORTION prop] arrangement alignment [REVERSE] [COMPRESSED]} Controls the overall appearance of the chart. xdist = horizontal distance between boxes in percent of 1/2 grid width. Default: 30 ydist = vertical distance between boxes in percent of grid height. Default: 30 proportion = box X/Y proportion * 100 Default: 200 arrangement = ROW | 2ROW | 2COLUMN | COLUMN --- controls the arrangement of terminal boxes (leaves) in trees alignment = CENTRE | LEFT | RIGHT ------ controls the alignment of tree structures for multicolumn or row arrangement. controls the positioning of lines (LEFT,RIGHT) for single column arrangement. REVERSE arranges branches in opposite direction COMPRESSED reduces the width of diagrams by removing empty space. {*DIRECTION direction} Changes the orientation of the diagram. The thumbnail stays unchanged. direction = DOWN | RIGHT ---- FlowPoc PROF only: {*PROB ProbabilityList} defines the probabilities for each branch emanating from the following box. (Simulation) ProbabilityList = comma separated list of probability values (in percent 1-100) and group identifiers. Only the first reference to each group need a probability value. Example: {*PROB a50,b30,a,b,20} for box with 5 branches. Branches 1 and 3 belong to group a, with probability 50/100 Branches 2 and 4 belong to group b, with probability 30/100 Branch 5 is an individual branch, with probability 20/100 Note: FlowPoc needs only the first 4 characters to recognise an advanced command or a parameter.
